Master Gardeners teach planting and landscape maintenance skills
in a variety of settings throughout Southeast Alaska. If you have a project or an activity, please
share a description to contribute to the website. If you are considering starting a project,
sites that are self-supporting with budget and staff are the most
sustainable. Community gardens,
neighborhood activities, educational clinics are all of interest to the
Southeast Alaska Master Gardening Association.

The Master Gardeners have been working with the Southeast Regional Resource Center’s Learning Connection and the Alaska Housing Development Corporation to keep the kids garden flourishing. Master Gardeners assist grade school aged children and parents in growing vegetables from seed. Seedlings are then grown in beds or the greenhouse. The garden is tended by residents and master gardeners throughout the summer. Vegetables from the garden are harvested and served weekly at the free lunch program provided by churches in the area. These kids really know where their food comes from! This program will also start up in the spring, so contact Joel joelboster@yahoo.com for information on how you can be involved.
summer 2016 at wildflower court:
Master Gardeners have participated in the WFC garden club which has met bimonthly at WFC since 2013. The group gathers through the growing season to develop and maintain flower and vegetable plantings. Residents participate in planning and collaborate with maintenance and other staff to nurture the plantings that are dispersed in containers throughout the accessible courtyards and patios of the facility. The Lobaugh family planted a primrose garden this spring that is sure to be a showstopper next summer. United Way donated their time for the Day of Caring Community Service project this September. Wild Flower Court staff and volunteers planted tulips and crocuses and emptied and washed planters for winter storage. Master Gardeners provided advice and helped winterize the garden. This project will start up again in April.
